A mid-length pane with a nice thick stiff blade for a firm impact. The lovely naturally purple purpleheart timber handle is quite large and best suited to someone with large hands. Those with small hands may find it a little awkward to hold comfortably.

The blade of this pane is unusual in that one side is still has the rattan skin intact but is still flat. This is the product of a quirk of nature where this piece of rattan just didn't grow in the customary round shape it normally does. Why? No idea :)

The shaft is made from rattan and the handle has been handcrafted from purpleheart with three brass handle holes and details. The pane is finished in gloss polyurethane varnish for an attractive and smooth surface and ease of cleaning.

Panes are made from a single large piece of rattan which is then shaved down to create a flat blade surface. The impact sensation they produce is somewhere between a paddle and a cane, hence the name. They don't have quite the intensity of a traditional cane, nor the thud of a wooden paddle. Panes have some flex in the blade shaft which varies with blade thickness. This flex helps convey the feeling of a cane to both the caner and canee.

Miss Emm came up with the flat cane concept way back in 2011 after being asked whether it was possible to create a cane that didn't feel as intense as a cane!

This handcrafted pane was created by Miss Emm in her workshop in Sydney's inner west, where the finest wooden kink toys come to life.
