If you're looking for a sensation somewhere between a paddle and a cane then this is the perfect implement. My panes (flat canes) are made from larger pieces of rattan with timber handles. The blade of this creation is an inch wide and tapers from roughly an inch to a quarter of an inch at the tip. There is still some flex in the shaft to provide the feeling of a traditional cane but the impact is not quite as sharp and localised as a cane.
